Quantum teleportation is not about sending matter across space —
it’s about transferring information, the quantum state of one particle, to another distant particle without moving the physical object itself.
It works through entanglement — a pre-existing link between two particles that share a unified quantum state.
When the state of the first particle is measured and transmitted (via classical communication),
the second instantly assumes the same quantum state.
The first successful teleportation was achieved in 1997 by Bouwmeester, Zeilinger, and their team at the University of Innsbruck.
Since then, teleportation has been extended across fiber optics, satellites, and even into orbit, achieving distances of over 1,400 kilometers.
